Yesterday, the Dubai Press Club signed a partnership agreement with Spotify, the world's most famous listening platform, and the first in the field of music and audio streaming, with the aim of giving Arab podcasters the platforms and tools needed to connect with a global audience.

This came within the agenda of the first edition of "Budfest Dubai", organized by the Dubai Press Club, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Media Council. This partnership, the first of its kind in the region, comes in the context of the great leaps the podcast industry is witnessing in the world and the Arab region, and in light of the global transformations in terms of consuming audio content, as statistics indicate an increase in listening to podcasts in the Arab world, which creates a market for it. An opportunity to invest, but despite it being a promising opportunity, there are many challenges facing this type of content, most notably generating income from podcast production, especially since ads are still shy on these platforms in the Arab world. The two parties to the partnership also announced that more details of this partnership will be announced during the coming period, in order to serve the aspirations of Arab podcasters and the podcast industry in the Middle East region.

Dubai Press Club President, Mona Ghanem Al Marri, said: “The partnership between Dubai Press Club and (Spotify) will open a great horizon for Arab podcasters in the near future, as the two parties will announce later on more strategic details of this partnership, and the nature of the services that will be provided to Arab podcasters, to launch their ideas. And expressing their aspirations and ambitions and highlighting their creativity, which will reflect positively on the future of this industry in the Arab world.”

She stressed that the partnership aims to expand the creativity of Arab podcasters, including those that rely on the use of digital tools that make them more able to achieve themselves, and highlight their potential to enrich the content available in Arabic on digital platforms.

In turn, Claudius Poehler, Managing Director of Spotify in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, excluding India, said: “With the growing importance of podcasts in the Arab world, we intend to partner with the Dubai Press Club to adapt services, as we share with the club its vision, and its eagerness to help content creators “The podcast industry is experiencing fundamental changes in the music space that we couldn’t have foreseen when the group launched in 2008, but today, with more than 3.2 million podcasters joining, we are committed to building The largest audio network in the world, enabling everyone to create audio clips.”
