The Egyptian Pharaohs were manhandled in Luanda by Angola on Friday, December 12, as part of the 5th day of the qualifiers for the next World Cup (2nd round).

They were led 0-2 before reacting and conceding the draw 2-2.

A point which is enough to ensure them the first place of group F and therefore a ticket for the 3rd and final round.

Gabon believed in it.

After beating Libya earlier in Franceville on Friday, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and his teammates have no doubt followed with great attention the other Group F match between Angola and Egypt in Luanda.

The deal was simple: for the Panthers to have a last chance to snatch first place in the group on Matchday 6 and final, they needed an Egyptian defeat.

And this scenario took shape for a while.

Elneny to wake up, Tawfik to be forgiven

The Angolans, although bottom of the group and out of the race, put up good adversity to coach Carlos Queiroz and his men. They opened the scoring through Helder Costa. A cross from the right was pushed back by Ayman Ashraf right on the Angola striker, who had time to control the leather and adjust a winning shot (25th). Then, the Egyptian Akram Tawfik knocked Zini into the box, and M'Bala Nzola scored the break goal from the penalty spot (35 ').

Disoriented, the Pharaohs regained a little foothold just before the break thanks to his two "British".

Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool player, centered back towards Mohamed Elneny, who wears the Arsenal colors.

The latter did not tremble and reduced the gap (45th + 1).

In the second half, Akram Tawfik redeemed himself from his mistake made earlier by going to score the equalizer (59th).

This point obtained thanks to this draw is enough for the happiness of the Egyptians.

Queiroz and his players have 11 points at the top of Group F. Gabon, second with 7 points, can no longer join them on the 6th and final day of the 2nd round.

We therefore know four of the ten qualified for the 3rd round, the last one, that of the dams: Morocco, Senegal, Mali and Egypt.

In the other match played on Friday evening, Morocco, already assured of its qualification, honored its status as untouchable.

The Atlas Lions gleaned their fifth success in as many games with a 3-0 victory over Sudan.

Ryan Mmaee scored twice (3rd, 63rd) and Imran Louza closed the show (90th + 3).

Morocco are the only team to have won all of their matches in this round.
