In Jinan, Shandong, the "post-90s" guy Lu Jikai is obsessed with making antique jewelry with filigree inlay technology and has been in the business for nearly 8 years.

Filigree inlay, also known as fine gold craftsmanship, is a traditional Chinese handcraft that originated in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. It uses eight crafts including pinching, filling, stacking, welding, stacking, laying, weaving, and weaving. It was mostly used to make royal ornaments in ancient times.

[Explanation] On November 11, the reporter met Lu Jikai in the Baihuazhou Historical and Cultural District of Jinan City. Hairpins, earrings, pendants and other exquisite jewelry were placed on the booth, exuding ancient charm.

He told reporters that his relationship with filigree inlay skills was initially influenced by his family.

I like our traditional Chinese jewelry because I have been loved by my parents since I was a child, mainly because my mother likes that jewelry.

Later, after studying fine art, I liked jewelry more, so I chose the aspect of jewelry design (professional).

Why not make Western jewelry that is more popular? I am also influenced by our traditional culture, and I think the beauty of our traditional Chinese jewelry is not inferior to the beauty of Western jewelry design.

The other is our Chinese traditional things, which are more artistic, and we need to pass on them more.

[Explanation] In 2014, Lu Jikai just stepped into the university campus and came into contact with the filigree inlay craftsmanship. He spent his spare time studying and making antique jewelry.

After graduating in 2018, he chose to stay in Jinan, renting a house of more than ten square meters in the suburbs and opening his own studio.

The small area and the dim lights did not stop him from chasing his dreams.

Eight years ago, that is to say, this industry was still very little known.

(Rented after graduation) In the old kind of old community, there is a first floor, similar to a basement, and there was no sunlight at the time, so I kept the lights on and made things in it all day long.

But the market was not very good at that time. I liked it very much and didn't give up. I have persisted until now.

[Explanation] On the same day, Lu Jikai showed reporters several important processes for making traditional jewelry.

He gently clamped two filaments less than 4 mm in diameter with tweezers, and gently pinched them to form a filament, as thin as a hair.

He introduced that filigree inlays rely on manual design, which requires a lot of energy and time, and also tests people's eyesight and endurance.

This blue place is dotted with green craftsmanship and dotted parrot hair.

Diancui craft is a traditional Chinese auxiliary craft for filigree inlay. It is more difficult to dot parrot hair on this carcass, and it takes a long time.

The dots on this carcass are a test of human endurance.

The theme of this hairpin is Dielianhua, which is a traditional Chinese auspicious pattern. The ancients liked butterflies and flowers.

You see, we also like it very much now. Metaphors, metaphors are the kind of butterfly and flower love, most of which are lovers or husbands and wives (emotions).

[Explanation] In May 2021, he took a year to reproduce the "Two Dragons, Nine Phoenixes, and One Product Crown", which won the Shandong Arts and Crafts Gold Award.

This crown used to be the dragon and phoenix crown worn by the imperial wife during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. There are hundreds of brushed wires of different thicknesses, coupled with the falcon craftsmanship and lettering craftsmanship. The beauty of the details is amazing.

In his opinion, there are more and more people who love antique jewelry nowadays. He hopes to bring forth the new and keep up with the times, so that antique jewelry can be more in line with the aesthetics of modern people.

I feel that our Chinese tradition (craftsmanship) cannot be reproduced blindly, to pursue the things of the ancients, but to create and improve by ourselves, and to make it more suitable for modern people to wear.
