Regarding the efficacy of the new coronavirus vaccine, the National Institute of Infectious Diseases released a preliminary analysis result in August that the domestic virus was almost replaced by the delta strain, and the vaccine efficacy was 87% for the delta strain. On the other hand, it seems to be extremely effective.

The results of this analysis were presented by the National Institute of Infectious Diseases at an expert meeting of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare held on the 9th of this month.

A group such as the National Institute of Infectious Diseases analyzed the relationship between the test results of the new corona and vaccination of 1353 people who visited 7 outpatient clinics for fever in the Kanto region during the month until the end of August.

During this period, 498 of the 858 unvaccinated and 38 of the 252 unvaccinated were positive, based on the results estimated from the two doses. The effectiveness of the vaccine is now 87%.

According to the group, more than 90% of the new coronavirus in the Kanto region was replaced by Delta strains during this period, and the vaccine seems to be extremely effective against Delta strains as well.

Motoi Suzuki, director of the Epidemiology Center for Infectious Diseases, National Institute of Infectious Diseases, said, "It has been reported that the effectiveness of vaccines weakens in about half a year overseas, so we will continue to analyze whether the effectiveness will weaken in Japan as well."
