Sixteen Ethiopian UN employees were detained by authorities on Tuesday after a massive crackdown targeting Tigrayans, as the international community continues to believe in a diplomatic "window of opportunity" to end the conflict between the government and the rebels.

The United States has judged Ethiopia's arrests "on the basis of ethnicity" "totally unacceptable", after confirmation of the detention of UN employees.

The concern of those close to Marcel Makomé, this opponent of Congolese President Denis Sassou-Nguesso who has not given any news since October 30.

He was reportedly arrested during a stay in Kinshasa, in neighboring DR Congo.
