A fox with surprising behavior has taken the habit of approaching the houses of Urschenheim (Haut-Rhin) since October.

The aggressive animal is not afraid of humans.

On several occasions, he did not hesitate to try to bite walkers in the calves or attack dogs after dark.

He has also been seen in the company of other animals, reports

.

Worried about the risk that the canine could represent for its citizens, the mayor Robert Kohler considered trapping or killing the fox.

"We do not know the cause of this behavior, it could very well represent a danger", he analyzed.

Shooting near residents is impossible.

A trap could catch cats or dogs and thus reveal the subterfuge to the target animal.

A former domestic animal?

Specialists have put forward several explanations for the attitude of the mammal.

The latter could, among other things, be a domestic animal released into the wild.

"That's the problem, people find a fox, a fawn or a wild boar in the spring: it's too cute so they take it away," commented veterinarian Hélène Quentin.

And when it becomes an adult, they can no longer manage it ”.

Experts rule out, however, that the fox suffers from rabies.

If so, the canine would have died within two weeks and attacked during the day.
