Egypt began the siege of the Republic of "Tuk Tuk"
The Ministry of Trade and Industry began working on the siege of the “Tuk Tuk” Republic, as the first measure towards ending its presence on the Egyptian street.
Sources confirmed to Al-Watan newspaper that a decision had been issued to stop importing its basic components, in addition to setting up a special program to implement the plan to replace the tuk-tuk to be replaced by minivans. Only one meeting was held to form it.
The Egyptian state has previously banned the tuk-tuk from running in capitals, major cities, official and main roads, and a number of Cairo streets, and its conditions have been legalized since 2008 by allowing the issuance of a driver's license and holding those who did not carry out licenses to be held accountable.
The Ministry of Industry issued a decision to form a committee to set up the executive mechanisms for the project to replace the traditional tuk-tuk cars. Last March, a governmental committee was formed that included representatives of the Federation of Industries and the concerned authorities in order to develop a clear plan with executive mechanisms to implement the replacement plan.
