New measures to fight against child crime.

The bishops of France unveiled their action plan yesterday (Monday, November 8, 2021), after having recognized on Friday (November 5) the "institutional responsibility" of the Catholic Church in the sexual violence committed for 70 years by members of its clergy, clerics or people in connection with the religious institution.

Among the announcements to remember: the creation of an independent national body for recognition and redress; the sale of movable and immovable property of the Conference of Bishops of France to supply the compensation fund for victims; or even the constitution of working groups including lay people. These announcements come a month after the publication of the report of the Independent Commission on Sexual Abuse in the Church (Ciase), headed by Jean-Marc Sauvé. This survey had shaken the entire religious institution, estimating at 330,000 the number of minors who have been victims of sexual violence since 1950. So, is the Church of France in the process of making its interior revolution? And can it pave the way for similar awareness and reparations inother countries ?
