Dressed in full white suits, several people climbed to the top of a rock in Plérin (Côtes d'Armor) on Friday.

But what were they doing perched several meters high in the bay of Saint-Brieuc?

In reality, they were painters who set up a system to save people from drowning.

Avoid being swept away by the current

The rock and its cross were painted white to become a visible landmark for fishermen on foot or walkers surprised by the rising waters, explains France Bleu Bleu Armorique.

The level can quickly rise up to 12.50 meters in the area.

By climbing to the top of the rock, they can take shelter from dangerous currents.

An idea that is not really new since this rock was already used by boaters to find their way around like a lighthouse.

At the beginning of the 20th century, it had already been covered with white paint, told our colleagues the president of the association of fishermen-boaters of Martin-Plage.
