The
eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano
, on the island of
La Palma,
was active this Sunday for 50 days with no data pointing to a short-term completion.
The natural phenomenon that began on September 19 has for the moment forced the
evacuation of more than 7,000 residents
from nearby areas, of which more than 2,000 are directly affected by having their residence within the perimeter of the volcano.
Of these people with homes in the area of the eruption, 1,576 are residents of Los Llanos de Aridane, 391 of El Paso and 122 are residents of the municipality of Tazarote.
According to the latest update of the Copernicus monitoring carried out on Saturday afternoon, the lava has covered a total of 992.4 hectares since the eruption began on September 19, affecting or destroying 2,719 buildings and infrastructure so far.

2,722 infrastructures damaged by lava
