According to Deadline, Robert Downey Jr. and Matt Damon are currently in negotiations to join the cast of
Oppenheimer
, Christopher Nolan's next film about the Manhattan Project and the inventor of the atomic bomb.
However, the appearance of the two actors on the film's IMDb page suggests that these negotiations are more than advanced since the reference site also reveals the roles that have been assigned to them.
Robert Downey Jr. should therefore embody Lewis Strauss who sat on the American Atomic Energy Commission and was one of the architects of the development of nuclear weapons across the Atlantic.
For his part, Matt Damon is expected to take on the role of Lt. Gen. Richard Groves Jr. who led the Manhattan Project as a representative of the US Army Corps of Engineers.
Well engaged
Robert Downey Jr. and Matt Damon therefore join a cast already made up of Cillian Murphy who will play Robert Oppenheimer and Emily Blunt who has been entrusted with the role of the physicist's wife.
It's a safe bet that filming should start sometime next year since the film's release is already set for July 21, 2023.
In addition to directing, Christopher Nolan is also responsible for writing this historical drama which will be largely inspired by the biography
Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer
, Kai Bird and historian Martin J. Sherwin which, published in 2005, won the Pulitzer Prize.
