(The 4th CIIE) Looking at Pudong at the CIIE: It is a window and a fertile soil

China News Agency, Shanghai, November 6th (Reporter Li Shuzheng) At the 4th China International Import Expo, Pudong once again ushered in global attention.

As an important part of the CIIE, the sub-forum of the 4th Hongqiao International Economic Forum "China's Pudong High-Level Reform and Opening up and Building an Open World Economy" was held on the 6th.

Outside the venue, HAJBA Tamás, senior consultant of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in China, recalled his "first meeting" with Pudong: It was in the 1990s, and he had seen the "Pudong's tallest building"-only 24 in height. The fire-fighting watchtower is up to 632 meters high. It has also been on the "China's tallest building"-the 632-meter high Shanghai Center.

Pudong is a "masterpiece" of China's reform and opening up.

The first financial and trade zone, the first free trade zone, the first free trade zone, the first wholly foreign-owned trading company... a series of "national firsts" were born in Pudong.

Through the window of Pudong, Haibo not only sees the fruits of China's economic development, but also feels the "wind direction" of China's opening up.

"Therefore, we pay special attention to the new policies of the Pudong New Area pilot program and how it supports China's reform and opening up." Haibo said.

In July of this year, a series of new policies related to the "leading zone" were implemented. Haibo also paid special attention to this: "For example, tax exemption, support for research and development, and improvement of the investment environment for introduced companies. Especially under the influence of the current epidemic, How can we strengthen foreign exchanges and strengthen the overseas circulation of the dual circular economy? We very much hope to see these new policies bring Pudong to a new stage of development and make some new breakthroughs."

For enterprises, Pudong is even more fertile ground for development.

In November last year, Covestro “upgraded” its regional headquarters in Pudong, Shanghai—from a management-based regional headquarters to a multi-functional, complex and comprehensive regional headquarters integrating investment, management, operation, and research and development.

The reason for "upgrading" is simple, that is, "There is no business that cannot be done, and there is no business that cannot be done in Pudong." During the forum discussion, Lei Huanli, senior vice president of Covestro Global and President of China, said.

Just in October of this year, Takeda Pharmaceuticals "moved" Takeda China Regional Headquarters and Takeda Asia Development Center to Pudong.

In an interview with a reporter from China News Agency, Wang Lin, head of Takeda’s Asian Development Center, said that this “moving” is inseparable from its development plan.

"In the future, we will better cooperate with local companies, and Pudong is a fertile ground for innovation, and it is also a highland for innovation. We hope to be more closely integrated into this innovative'ecosystem'."

"We are pleased to announce that the International Council for Inspection, Testing and Certification has decided to set up a representative office in Lujiazui, Pudong." The third representative office in the world.

"The location in Pudong, Shanghai was chosen because of the trade volume and activity."

The vision of Pudong's "leading zone" is even more exciting and will attract more attention from the world.

At the forum of the day, Shanghai Pudong New Area District Mayor Hang Yingwei shared the vision of "leading the district" in four aspects: higher quality economic development, higher level of reform and opening up, more favored hot spots for innovation, and more dynamic Modern city.

"China sees Shanghai, and Shanghai sees Pudong." Suga Katsuhiko, managing director of Sumitomo Mitsui Marine and Fire Insurance Co., Ltd., said in Chinese word by word when interviewed by reporters.
