Frédéric Valletoux, president of the Hospital Federation of France (FHF), alert to the microphone of Europe 1 on "multiple dysfunctions which have been known for years".

He is campaigning for the recruitment of 125,000 caregivers and an upgrading of the healthcare system as a whole.

INTERVIEW

The call is blunt: "This is a historic moment for our health care system."

For Frédéric Valletoux, president of the Hospital Federation of France (FHF), the period in which the sector is living today is decisive, five months before the presidential election.

Sunday noon, on the eve of the annual FHF fair, he was first pessimistic about the current state of the system, struck by the emergency room strike and then by the very painful Covid-19 crisis, which did not in the end wears out the caregivers.

"We have been ostrich for years"

"It is the whole health system behind the hospital which is crossed by multiple dysfunctions which have been known for years", laments the leader of the hospital federation. "For years, we have been ostrich and applied half measures to try to avoid the essential." And if the Ségur of health allowed according to him to "change gear" with 10 billion euros in increases in treatment, the account is still not there.

Hence the idea of building today a "New Deal for health": "The urgency is to make the younger generations want to get involved in the care professions and to better finance the system. "

This requires a better attractiveness of careers in the public hospital, where 6% of the beds are closed, but also by the upgrading of the consultations of the general practitioner, he evokes.

In total, he estimates the number of caregivers to be hired at 125,000.

An invitation to candidates on March 17

For that, "it will be necessary that on the occasion of the presidential election, the candidates express what they have to say for the future of this system", insists Frédéric Valletoux.

"On March 17, the second anniversary of the first day of the first confinement ever implemented in France, all candidates will be invited to express their point of view a few days before the first round on what they want for the future of the system health and for the French. "
