A 35-year-old driver sped through the Hamburg Elbe tunnel shortly after midnight on Friday at 221 kilometers per hour.

80 kilometers per hour are permitted there on Autobahn 7.

First, the driver had overtaken a civil police police with video surveillance, the investigators said.

The officers then began taking measurements.

Upon entering the Elbe Tunnel, the driver initially accelerated his 245 hp car to over 170 km / h.

After overtaking two box vans, the 35-year-old pushed the accelerator further and reached the documented 221 km / h, as it was said, in the tunnel.

The officers finally stopped the speeder and checked it.

The driver can expect a fine of at least 1200 euros, a three-month driving ban and two points in the register of fitness to drive.
