Sharjah Book Fair makes new history by declaring the “largest book fair in the world”
The Sharjah International Book Fair, in its 40th session, recorded a new history for Emirati and Arab culture, and the knowledge and book industry market, by leading for the first time since its inception forty years ago, all international book fairs, and declaring it "the largest fair in the world" at the level of buying and selling copyrights for the year 2021. The exhibition, which is being held this year under the slogan (Here.. you have a book), achieved an Emirati Arab achievement for the book and publishing industry in the Arab region and the entire continents of Asia and Africa, being the first exhibition to reach this rank globally among the Asian and African continents, and this achievement comes based on the base of Buying and selling rights and global participation from publishers and agents within the professional program of the exhibition (Publishers Conference), where 546 publishers and literary agents from 83 countries participated in the conference that preceded the launch of the fortieth session.
The importance of the professional programs of international book fairs in relying on them in the classification is that they are the main engine for knowledge exchange between publishers, authors and literary agents.
This achievement, bearing an Emirati, Arab and international identity, is credited to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, as the exhibition proved its strength in achieving tangible leaps in the book industry in the region and the world, by hosting this year 1632 publishers from 83 Arab and foreign countries. , displaying 15 million book copies for 1.3 million titles, including 110,000 new titles shown for the first time in an exhibition.
