The alarming projections of the WHO are of course the front page of the whole of the European press, a real "

warning shot

 ", explains the

Guardian

, which reports that according to the World Health Organization, "

this new pandemic wave could kill half a million people by next February on the European continent

 ”. "

In Germany, Croatia, Slovenia, Russia, infections are exploding,

 " notes the

Daily Telegraph

, which quotes an American research center which warns Europe against "

a difficult winter if the continent does not not adopt stricter Covid control measures now

 ”.

A massive 4th wave

", which therefore particularly hits Germany. "

Nearly 34

000

new cases in 24 hours

," mainly unvaccinated, panics the German press who like

Die Welt

worried "

about a possible reconfinement for unvaccinated

," while the situation hospitable is extremely tense. And "

among the patients admitted to intensive care, about half do not survive

", warns a doctor from the Leipzig hospital who describes, still in

Die Welt

, "

intensive care units bursting at the seams where one can no longer welcome no one, no matter what they have

 ".

And the debate is mounting in the country on "

compulsory vaccination

 ", the

Süddeutsche Zeitung

reports that now a majority of Germans, "

57

% are in favor, against 39

% still opposed

 ".

London approves hopeful anti-Covid drug molnupiravir

Remember this name: molnupiravir, an anti-viral developed by the Merck laboratory, which has just been approved in the United Kingdom. “

A revolutionary treatment

 ,” explains the

Guardian

, “

two tablets a day to halve death and serious illness

 ,” enthuses

La Repubblica.

It is truly a "

necessary weapon to fight against Covid

", underlines for its part the

Wall Street Journal

, which specifies that the United States should also soon "

authorize this drug

", just like the European Medicines Agency. The American daily which insists "

on the fact that this drug does not replace the vaccines which remain essential to contain the pandemic

 ", molnupiravir"

will only be used for people who have contracted Covid with moderate to severe symptoms

 ".

COP26: a new step towards the end of coal

The COP26 is the beginning of the end for coal

 ", welcomes

Le Soir

who underlines that "

among the many commitments made during this 1st week of the summit, several are undermining coal

 ", "

responsible for more than 40

% of CO2 emissions

”. After the commitment of the G20 countries to "

stop supporting coal-fired power plant projects abroad

 ", 46 countries "

from South Korea to Poland

 " pledged yesterday to "

end the use of

coal.

coal

 ”, reports the Belgian daily.

Not enough to sign his death sentence in the short term

 ", comments

Le Soir

, but "

a page is turning

 ."

Not so sure, for its part warns the

Financial Times

, which insists on the refusal of the United States and China, "

two of the biggest consumers of coal

", to adhere to this virtuous pact.

A very political decision

 ", explains the

New York Times

, the White House fearing that such a commitment will complicate even more "

the negotiations on the adoption of the national program of President Biden

", which is still blocked in Congress.

British MP threatens woman with 'acid attack'

Acid Claudia

" made the front page of the British tabloid press. Claudia Webbe, 56 years old and MP for Leicester East, is thus nicknamed for having threatened a woman, "

a friend whom she found too close to her companion

 ", to "

attack him with acid

", among other threats . Two years in total of non-stop harassment against a background of jealousy, reports the

Guardian

, which earned the MP a sentence of "

10

weeks in detention with two

years suspended

", a sentence she appealed. Excluded from Labor ranks, Claudia Webbe still sits in Westminster as an independent MP and continues to vote in Parliament. And it could last, underlines the

Guardian

which specifies "

that a petition of revocation can be organized only if its appeal fails

 ".
