German woman killed 5 of her 6 children and failed to commit suicide

A German court today sentenced a German mother to life in prison, after being convicted of the murder of five of her six children in their home, in the western German city of Solingen.

The Wuppertal court emphasized the atrocity of the crime committed, and in the overwhelming majority of rulings for similar crimes, German courts rule out the possibility of releasing the convicts after fifteen years, which is the period often spent in prison for life sentences, according to the German news agency.

Prosecutors stated that the mother first gave the children, aged 1 to 8, painkillers and then killed them by suffocating or drowning them.

The mother sent her sixth child, the firstborn, to stay with his grandmother before the murder. After the murder, she attempted suicide by throwing herself in front of a train at Düsseldorf station, but she did not die.
