The producer of organic eggs, and manager of the domain of Sainte-Marie-des-Gués, in Ouzouer-sur-Loire (Loiret), sells nearly 3,000 hens in order to avoid the slaughterhouse.

At the end of October, he learned of the receivership of the start-up Poulehouse, with whom he had a partnership for a few years, reports

La République du Center on

 Thursday.

"They called me to tell me about their financial difficulties and tell me that they will not be able to take the 1,500 hens as agreed," he explains.

The breeder regularly entrusted his animals, aged over 18 months, to this start-up launched in 2017, in order to offer them a peaceful retirement.

End of sales on December 31

The producer having already entrusted 1,500 hens to Poulehouse, he now finds himself with 3,000 hens that he cannot keep.

This is why he chose to offer them for adoption in order to "give them a second life".

They are sold for 4.50 euros each until December 31st.

The gallinaceans are to be recovered on site.

The breeder started his activity with 4,500 hens and two henhouses.

Currently, he has more than 17,000 animals in seven different henhouses.

“In twenty-one year, I was forced to send only three batches out of fifty to the slaughterhouse,” he says.
