On November 3, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin presided over a regular press conference.

Some reporters asked questions. We have noticed that there have been many incidents of repatriation of students studying in the United States and visiting students recently.

What is the spokesperson's comment on this?

Wang Wenbin said that recently, incidents of unreasonable nuisance and suppression of Chinese students studying in the United States and visiting students by the United States have occurred frequently.

Just recently, a Chinese visiting scholar holding a legal visa issued by the US government was deported after being unreasonably checked by the US when he entered the country.

According to incomplete statistics, since August this year alone, nearly 30 Chinese students studying in the United States and visiting students have suffered such unfair treatment, and many others have been harassed and interrogated by the US in rude ways.

Wang Wenbin said that most of the above-mentioned people were asked whether they or their parents were members of the Communist Party, and whether they received a task assigned by the Chinese government before going to the United States.

Some of the reasons for being deported are incredible, such as being suspected of having military background because of the university’s military training photos stored in personal mobile phones. These investigations far exceed the scope of “normal law enforcement” claimed by the US.

Wang Wenbin pointed out that on the one hand, the United States claimed to welcome Chinese students, on the other hand, it "inherited" the legacy of the previous government. Some law enforcement agencies and personnel of the United States continued to broaden the concept of national security, unreasonably harass Chinese students and scholars, and tried to study in the United States in China. Create a chilling effect among the personnel.

This approach, which runs counter to the nature of mutual benefit and win-win China-US humanities exchanges, seriously hurts the feelings of the two peoples, impacts the mutual trust and cooperation between the two countries, is harmful to the stable and healthy development of China-US relations, and also goes against what the US leaders said. , Has no intention of launching a "new cold war" statement with China.

Wang Wenbin emphasized that we urge the United States to stop such practices that harm others and harm itself, and create a good atmosphere and provide necessary conditions for China-US cultural exchanges and educational cooperation.

China will firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese students studying in the United States.
