Transforming seawater into drinking water is the challenge that the Sea Sal Water company has taken on.

The latter is installed in the port of Saint-Guénolé Penmarc'h, in Finistère.

Flavored with lemon, strawberry or so alkaline, its Maï Water drink is now sold in several Biocoop stores in the department, reports

Ouest-France on

 Wednesday.

Sea water is filtered and re-mineralized.

"The demand is there, we must now increase our production," says Roger Le Dréau, manager of the company.

Its machines have been installed under the Saint-Guénolé auction since 2019. They transform 82% of the water drawn from the ocean.

A solution for the future

For Roger Le Dréau, desalination represents a solution for the future: “Drought and pollution of groundwater means that water will become scarce.

It is an alternative solution ”.

Currently, his company recovers 50m³ of water per day.

He hopes to reach 1,000m³ and thus be able to develop the bottled water market in Brittany.

But Sea Sal Water has other projects, in particular the injection of desalinated water into the drinking water network with the agreement of the communities.

An idea that students from the ENSTA Bretagne engineering school are currently working on.

The results are expected in February 2022. Other students are working on the recovery of brine, which could be used in cosmetics, by brewers or even in gourmet restaurants.
