Nearly 80 cases of Covid-19 have been detected in recent days among inmates at Béziers prison.

A figure confirmed by the Toulouse headquarters of the Interregional Directorate of Prison Services: "78 prisoners are concerned, without any complications, out of a workforce of 1,050".

The situation was taken care of by the team from the health unit of the establishment, in conjunction with the Regional Health Agency.

The previous week, the Force Ouvrière union had mentioned a "meteoric increase in Covid-19 cases".

The union, which had given the alert, also noted the reaction of the management of the penitentiary.

"It was well managed," said Sabrina Bajja, FO representative at Béziers prison.

Return of plexiglass to visiting rooms and distribution of masks

FFP2 masks were distributed to all staff and the Plexiglas, recently removed from visiting rooms, were reinstalled.

Workshops where detainees work have been temporarily closed and movement within the wings restricted.

“All staff” was tested, as well as the detainees who wished it.

"Those who refused were confined", underlines the union representative.

On the other hand, the visiting rooms remained open to detainees and the Family Life Units maintained.

Prisoners who test negative or have a complete vaccination course can continue to practice sports.
