During a video address to the participants of the meeting on forestry and land use at the UN Climate Summit in Glasgow, Putin recalled that about 20% of the world's forests are located in Russia.

“We are taking the most serious and energetic measures to preserve them, improving forestry management, fighting illegal logging and forest fires, increasing the area of reforestation,” the president said.

He noted that Russia is consistently increasing funding for these purposes.

The president also said that Russia supports the draft declaration on forests and land use proposed for approval at the climate summit in Glasgow.

More than 100 world leaders have pledged to work together to reverse deforestation by 2030, according to the COP26 Glasgow Declaration on Forests and Land Use.
