In order to reduce accidents caused by illness while driving a car, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has set a unified standard for the function of a system that detects a driver's abnormality and automatically stops it safely, and promotes its widespread use. ..

A few years ago, automobile manufacturers have introduced a "driver abnormality response system" that detects abnormalities such as the driver losing consciousness and automatically stops the vehicle safely. However, its functionality varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.

At the safety measures study meeting held on the 2nd, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism proposed to set a unified standard for system functions in light of the current situation where accidents due to illness while driving a car are constant.

According to the indicated criteria, ▽ the driver's abnormality is detected by a camera installed in the car, and ▽ at least 5 seconds before the operation, an alarm is sent to the driver by screen display or voice.

▽ Then, if there is no response, slow down the car and stop it.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism will solicit public comments on these standards later this month and hope to apply them to new models starting in September next year at the earliest.

On the other hand, this system is installed in only about 0.17% of new cars sold in the three years up to last year, so we are promoting its widespread use.
