The potential of the Ukrainian military industry is such that the creation of a full-fledged missile system of the country (whatever that means) is a very real task, the solution of which is sabotaged by the authorities.

This is approximately the meaning of what was said by the former Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksandr Turchinov on the air of one of the Ukrainian TV channels.

According to him, as part of the production of the Neptune anti-ship missile, specific steps were developed to create air, land and sea-based missiles to protect Ukraine in the Black and Azov Seas, but the program was curtailed.

Turchynov also lamented that the Ukrainian government regularly disrupts the defense order due to its ignorance, irresponsibility and rampant corruption.

And this (oh horror!) Endangers the country's security.

I have bad news for Alexander Turchinov. There is no meaningful sabotage or disregard for the military needs of Ukraine, which is trying to reclaim Donbass by military actions. And there is such a phenomenon as the catastrophic degradation of the Ukrainian industry, including those producing military products. It is impossible to inscribe positive, buildable and evolving elements in this process. Acceptance and enjoyment of the annoying variety falling off is the only way out.

In the production of weapons used in naval battles, Ukraine has nothing to catch at all, since there it has to compete with Russia, which in terms of the quality and quantity of weapons produced has gone far ahead - and very far. The only area where superiority could be achieved is the war in the Donbass. Both sides are fighting using comparable samples of Soviet military equipment.

But here are some numbers.

At the time when Ukraine declared itself an independent state, 3594 enterprises were operating on its territory, producing military and dual-use products, with a total number of personnel of about 3 million people.

The industry was served by 700 enterprises, including 205 production associations and 139 research and production associations, with a total headcount of 1.45 million people.

After the Russian one, the Ukrainian military industry was the second in a row.

Today in Ukraine there are only 147 state-owned enterprises, and there are still about 250 private business entities that have been created over the past two decades.

The total number of personnel is no more than 100 thousand people.

This is not a specific situation related specifically to the production and development of weapons.

The rapid degradation of the Ukrainian industry has left no chances for the military industry, despite the fact that Ukraine has been waging a war in the Donbass for almost eight years, which means that it urgently needs to increase the volume of military products.

However, the downturn in industry leads to the fact that Ukraine's GDP has been losing from 0.6% to 2.6% quarterly since 2018.

The subsidence last year by 5.2% was the decisive factor in the deceleration of the economy as a whole by 4%.

These are general characteristics, but they are not exclusive for the military sphere, since the loss of specialists, technologies, production capacities, state support is an irresistible trend of the entire Ukrainian production complex.

Turchinov should have looked at the statistical reports to understand that the release of anti-ship missiles is a fascinating business (probably), but not at all obligatory.

Ukraine has every chance of freezing this winter due to the lack of gas and coal.

This is a real problem that can cause serious unrest.

What kind of "Maidan" will it be?

For the population, anti-ship missiles are a disregarded, unrecognizable problem, nothing at all.

It would like not to starve and freeze.
