Three departments were placed on alert to waves-submersion on Monday by Météo-France.

These are the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, the Landes and the Gironde.

The last two are also on yellow alert for rain, flooding, strong winds and thunderstorms.

Waves of more than 4 meters high were recorded at midday in Anglet, in the Basque Country, specifies France 3 Aquitaine.

“Tonight and Tuesday during the day, the west wind is blowing strongly in the Bay of Biscay.

The gusts are sometimes violent and generate strong waves ”, explains the prefecture of Pyrénées-Atlantiques.

The authorities recommend avoiding traveling by the sea on foot or by car, residents to close doors, windows and shutters on the seafront, and boaters and fishermen not to go to sea.
