• Sports The final hours of Maradona, between a questioned doctor and the mouth-to-mouth resuscitation of his cook

The path that led Diego Armando Maradona to become La Mano de Dios, that kind of

vigilante avenger

, from the point of view of the Argentines, who eliminated England in the World Cup in Mexico 86 and led the Albiceleste to conquer the second World Cup in its history, it has a lot of magic. That story, also with its shadows, of course, is the one that wants to capture

Blessed Dream

, the biographical series about the star, sadly disappeared almost a year ago, that Amazon Prime Video has just released.

The first season will have its culminating point in 1986, when Maradona raised to the sky that much desired World Cup that has now been avoiding the Argentines for several years. There will be a second batch of episodes. In them, in principle, those that were the most unfortunate years for the myth will be shelled. For now, what we have to do is enjoy, above all, its boom, with some chiaroscuro. Amazon's plan includes making the first five chapters of the series available to viewers on October 29. On November 5, the sixth and seventh can be seen. Thereafter, the last three will be available on November 12, 19 and 26, respectively.

In a series about

La Mano de Dios

, it is not unusual for Maradona to be played in this first season by a trinity of actors.

Nicolás Goldschmit, Nazareno Casero and Juan Palomino

, in chronological order, in this case, are in charge of capturing it. Nor is it strange that there has also been a trinity of directors:

Alejandro Aimetta

,

showrunner

and responsible for capturing the narration that takes place in America;

Roger Gual

, in charge of filming the sequences set in Spain and, finally,

Edoardo de Angelis

, directed the scenes that take place in Italy and, especially, in Naples.

Part of the magic of capturing Maradona's trip, therefore, has been the responsibility of Gual himself.

«In the episodes different timelines are mixed.

The idea was for each of us to give our own stamp to what we were shooting

.

It was about giving it personality and they were interested, above all, that it was someone local ”, explains the director, who also highlights the difficulty of recreating various things from Barcelona in the 80s that, right now, no longer exist, such as the changing rooms of the Camp Nou as they were then or some Barcelona nightlife venues.

“We have generated our own idea of how things were.

Nothing is the same as it really was, some things we have recreated on the set and others, in other locations, ”he reveals.

Making the actor who plays Maradona

play

for a Barça that is now lost in time, the one from the early 1980s, has not been easy either.

“We have used a system where we have shot with our actor, close-ups, reactions and then we have stock of real images.

That, plus our 4K camera and vintage cameras, which seem from the time,

give the feeling that you do not know if you are seeing stock or reality,

"he says.

What is clear, by all means, is with this type of method it is even achieved that the actor himself gets even more into the character.

That he is convinced, in fact, that he is really that footballer sometimes simply unstoppable.

«

The filming helped a lot to feel like the best in the world

», Explains Nicolás Goldschmidt, the person in charge of interpreting the younger version of Maradona. "I grew up in a Maradonian family," highlights the actor, who came to the world a month and a few days after the star lifted the World Cup in Mexico. Therefore, he has few memories of what perhaps were his highest moments, but instead he does recall the sadness for what would happen eight years later, in the United States, when the star tested positive for substance use and was removed from the competition. "I helped my brother take down the posters he had on the wall and we cried for what had happened," he recalls. In his case, he had to undergo several physical and technical sessions so that his way of playing soccer improved. And a lot. Above all, because he is right-handed and had to learn to use his left leg above all.

“Playing with my friends, there came a time when I started with the right and ended with the left.

Now I feel a little more organic », he reveals.

Beyond football, he also remembers with special affection the work done to mark a time line with his interpretation.

«I was very struck by being able to work at a sound level that passage of time.

When it debuts, its pitch is much higher.

Then, with the passage of time, the growth, the exits, the pressures, it goes down a little more.

Always moving in a d tone, ”he explains.

"

The voice and also the way of walking was what helped me to look a lot for the character,

" he says.

Filming of Sueño Bendito, in BarcelonaAmazon

"Interpreting him is a very important challenge since he is such an emblematic and well-known character.

People know him by heart, some have followed his story down to the smallest detail

. One can say 'I see Maradona' or 'I don't see Maradona'. There is not much margin. If he is not the most well-known character in the world, there he goes ”, highlights Nazareno Casero, in charge of giving life to a somewhat more mature version of the star. «The team gave us a lot of material, all the tools that we needed, from the vocal, the physical, the football, the information about him, with things that have not come to light, unpublished ... That, plus the work with Alejandro Aimetta, has helped us face a difficult challenge. Alone, we would not have gotten over it, ”he insists.

Of course, improving playing football has also been important. «

Compared to Maradona, anyone plays badly. I am right handed.

Learning to use your left foot was hard work, but beautiful. I always liked playing soccer and having to train this role, to be the best and stand on the field with the confidence of a player like Diego, he makes him four or five times cuter, more fun than one expected. Even ten times more, although approaching him in football is an almost impossible feat, "he explains. «To think of Diego on the pitch is to think of someone who breaks physics, who handles it the way he wants. It twists time, bends it, passes through matter and does practically miracles, ”he highlights.

«

The story we tell is a roller coaster, its ups and downs, how it reaches its splendor,

then it seems that it falls, but it comes to be reborn and does so with more force.

It always has one more twist, one more stitch to give, and that makes it interpretively very rich, "says the interpreter.

'It started from lower than zero.

If you stop and watch, I think you are going to feel empathy, admiration, courage, inspiration.

There is something about being God, but very human ”, highlights the Argentine.

“As the chapters go by, you see how much things cost you and why some others.

The idea is to show him with his successes and mistakes, as sincerely as a person of that stature can be shown, ”he says.
