Taliban kill two people for listening to music during wedding

Taliban gunmen shot wedding guests for playing music, killing two of them, according to local officials and witnesses, in an act condemned by the Taliban government.

A relative of the victims said that Taliban gunmen opened fire on a wedding party in the eastern town of Surkhod after they caught guests listening to Afghan music, killing two people and wounding two others.

In Kabul, government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid did not confirm the authenticity of the incident, but made it clear that the Taliban opposed such abuses.

He stressed that "the investigation is underway. At the present time, we do not know how it happened," noting that the matter may be a "personal issue."

He added during a press conference, "No one has the right to prevent anyone from music or anything else, they just have to try to convince them. This is the way to work."

He stressed, "If someone kills a person, even if he is one of our men, it is a crime and we will prosecute him and he must face the law."
