Two people were killed in a collision between a regional train and a transporter in Brandenburg on Saturday afternoon.

The dead are the occupants of the transporter, as a spokesman for the Brandenburg police said.

Accordingly, the accident occurred at an unrestricted level crossing near the town of Grieben in Löwenberger Land (Oberhavel district).

The RBB had previously reported on the accident.

The police are investigating the cause of the accident. The train is said to have dragged the car about 100 meters after the collision. It is said to be a train of the Niederbarnimer Railway. The identification of the two dead was still ongoing on Saturday. The driver and the four passengers were reportedly unharmed. The officials put the property damage at around 100,000 euros.

Last year in April, another serious collision occurred not far from the accident site on the same route (RB54).

Scene of the accident: Also an unrestricted level crossing.

In Klosterheide, a regional train (Ostprignitz-Ruppin) collided with a van.

A 39-year-old driver was injured so badly that he succumbed to his injuries a few days later in hospital.

In 2019 there was also a collision with a car and a train at the level crossing near Grieben.
