According to a media report, eight residents are said to have died after a corona outbreak in a senior citizens' residence in Brandenburg.

A total of 42 residents and 15 employees in the facility in Schorfheide on Werbellinsee are sick with Covid-19, the health department of the Barnim district confirmed to the Berlin-Brandenburg broadcasting company on Friday.

"It is a very unfavorable situation in this home, because the residents are vaccinated quite well, but the employees have a relatively low vaccination rate," said medical officer Heike Zander to the radio station Antenne Brandenburg.

"In this facility it is only about 50 percent."

This carries an increased risk, said Zander, the broadcaster, "and that has now also shown".

Zander was "unhappy" that vaccinations in care facilities are still voluntary.

"For me that also has something to do with a career setting."
