He is the new head of state of Cape Verde: José Maria Neves was elected on October 17, 2021 with 51.7% of the vote.

He will be sworn in on November 9, 2021. Once again, the Portuguese-speaking archipelago of 560,000 inhabitants, off the coast of Senegal, organized a peaceful ballot.

A country that is seen as a democratic model on the continent, but which also has to face up to economic, social and environmental fragilities.
