The Superior Audiovisual Council will change its name in 2022. A transformation that accompanies a more important one: the merger of the CSA with Hadopi, the High Authority for the distribution of works and the protection of rights on the Internet.

The powers of this new structure will be broadened.

It is now official: the Superior Audiovisual Council will change its name.

No more CSA.

From 2022, it will be Arcom, for Audiovisual and Digital Communication Regulatory Authority.

Why this name change?

Because the CSA will merge with Hadopi (the High Authority for the dissemination of works and the protection of rights on the Internet), the authority responsible for the fight against piracy.

This merger, provided for by the law on the regulation and protection of access to cultural works in the digital age, was published in the Official Journal on Tuesday.

It intervenes in a context where Hadopi is no longer at all adapted to the reality of online piracy.

An authority with "extended powers"

Arcom, beyond taking over the missions of the CSA and Hadopi, will go further.

In particular on the issues of illicit streaming, such as that of sporting events, which has grown strongly in recent years.

In a press release, the CSA insists on the "extended skills" of Arcom, responsible for modernizing the exercise of regulation and to be "more in touch with digital issues, the fight against infox and hate content and regulation of subscription video platforms ".

The birth of the Arcom will take place on January 1, 2022.
