The Board of Directors of the Arab Journalism Award, headed by Diaa Rashwan, and in the presence of the Secretary-General of the award, Mona Ghanem Al-Marri, approved the winning works in the 20th session of the award, in addition to approving the winner in the categories of the press column and the media personality of the year, during the meeting held yesterday, remotely via technology Visual communication.

The council, which includes in its membership a group of senior Arab media professionals, was briefed on the works nominated for the award, based on the merits of the judging committees regarding all categories of the award, in addition to reviewing the details of the evaluation process that took place during the last period, and the subsequent recommendations of the heads of the committees.

Rashwan stressed the keenness of the award’s board of directors to honor distinguished thinkers and high-level journalistic production, despite the challenges posed by the repercussions of the global crisis, represented by the “Covid-19” pandemic during the last period, and on all sectors and fields, specifically the journalistic work that won its share. From the change in the concepts, rules and standards of work and communication, including stopping paper publications in some Arab countries, and working remotely.

He added: "Despite the great challenges that the Arab press has experienced, the general secretariat's handling of the Arab Press Award was different, based on the approach established by the award's sponsor, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in Turning challenges into a testing space to discover real opportunities for success, and to find innovative solutions and alternatives to overcome these challenges.”

For her part, Al-Marri said: “The pandemic constituted a real test for the world, and prompted the General Secretariat of the Award to think in a different way about the future of the award, and the expectations for all journalistic work in the Arab world, as we were keen to double the work according to the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. , the owner of the idea of ​​establishing the award and its sponsor, so that it will always be as desired by His Highness, a motive for competition and an incentive to distinguish the Arab journalistic product, whether in terms of form or content, and the beneficial message it provides to our Arab societies.”

And she commended the great effort made by the members of the award’s board of directors, over the past year, to find a flexible mechanism for the award’s work that matches the conditions of the stage, and ensures that the challenges imposed by the pandemic are overcome, so that the award continues its mission in choosing the best works, to give it the deserved honor, in order to remain a major incentive For more professional and creative excellence in the various fields of journalistic work in the region.

The Secretary-General of the award indicated that the award is based on clear foundations of integrity and objectivity in the selection process, which in turn guarantees winning to the owner of the largest share of creativity within the competing category, pointing out that the General Secretariat continues to modernize and develop the award in line with developments in the press in the world.

The General Secretariat of the Arab Press Award is scheduled to reveal the names of the winners, during the awards ceremony, which will be organized this year on November 28, and the event will be followed by personalities, media figures and leaders of media work in the region, including Arab and international press institutions, in addition to media professionals. Arabs working in different parts of the world.

The award’s board of directors includes a group of intellectual, journalist, media and academic leaders, headed by the Egyptian Journalists Syndicate, Diaa Rashwan, and the membership of each of the council’s vice president, Mohamed Youssef, writer George Samaan, the executive editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Al Khaleej”, Raed Barkawi, and the media advisor. Ghassan Tahboub, and Sawsan Al-Shaer, journalist and writer for the Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper.

The council also includes in its membership the President of the Emirates Journalists Association, Muhammad Al Hammadi, the responsible editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Al Bayan”, Mona Bousmara, the Kuwaiti journalist and writer, Dr. Muhammad Al-Naghimish, the writer and media figure, Dr. Badria Al-Bishr, the Secretary-General of the National Union of Moroccan Press, Younes Mujahid, and Editor-in-Chief "Emirates Today" newspaper, Sami Al-Riyami, Saudi writer Dr. Khaled Al-Maeena, and journalist Yasser Rizk.
