The regional daily Ouest-France has taken a strong decision. The group has indeed decided to publish more political polls during the presidential campaign. In the opinion of its editor-in-chief, it is more important "to come back to reality", because "it is not the consultation of 'representative panels' that will give new life to democracy."

Polls are more and more present in the lives of the French.

However,

Ouest-France

decided not to publish any more during the campaign for the presidential election of 2022. It prefers indeed to bet on the report.

In an editorial dated October 23, its editor-in-chief François-Xavier Lefranc explains his choice and criticizes the media's passion for polls.

"In each election, we want to know the result even before the French have voted," he regrets.

Before continuing: "It is not the consultation of 'representative panels' which will restore vigor to democracy, it is the listening and consultation of each and everyone. It is urgent to rebuild a political space in contact immediate citizen. "

Politicians and the media, "diverted" from the essential

For the regional daily, the polls "are taken at face value" and the time spent commenting on them "distracts politicians and the media from the essential: meeting with citizens, in-depth exchange, debate of ideas , listening to what people experience on a daily basis, their concerns, their hopes. "

Ouest-France will not participate in the grand manipulation, will not conduct any political poll before the presidential election and will avoid wasting time commenting on those of others.

We will devote ourselves to reporting, to the investigation, as close as possible to those who have things to say.
