Michael Jordan's "sports boot" sells for nearly $1.5 million

NBA legend Michael Jordan's sneakers have sold for $1.47 million at auction.

Sotheby's announced today that the buyer is Nick Fiorella. Fiorella is a well-known collector of sports collectibles valued in the millions.

The shoe, a Nike AirShip, was worn by Jordan in his first NBA season in 1984, according to the auction house.

The red and white sneakers were once owned by a ball boy at the Denver Nuggets, which he got as a gift.

In April, Kanye West's sneakers at the 2008 Grammy Awards sold for $1.8 million, the highest amount ever paid at an auction for a sneaker, according to Sotheby's.

The unusual sneakers have repeatedly made headlines for their recent high auction prices.

A pair of white sneakers, handmade by one of the founders of Nike, were sold nearly 50 years ago for $162,500 last year.

Another pair of sneakers sold to Jordan for $560,000 last year.
