Actor James Michael Tyler, best known for his role as Gunther in the American series "Friends," died Sunday at the age of 59.

He died at his home in Los Angeles from prostate cancer, which he had suffered since 2018. His playing partner Jennifer Aniston paid tribute to him on his Instagram account.

He had played Gunther, a secondary but recurring character in the

Friends

series

, for 10 years.

James Michael Tyler had participated in 150 episodes out of the 235 that make up the cult series, as manager of the "Central Perk" café where the band met.

His character was madly in love with Rachel, played by Jennifer Aniston, but never dared to tell her.

A recurring gag.

He ended up, finally, confessing his feelings to her in the final episode of the series.

"We will miss you"

Actress Jennifer Aniston reacted to the death of her playmate by sharing a clip of this footage on her Instagram account, along with a message. "

Friends

wouldn't have been the same without you. Thank you for all the laughs you brought to the show and into our lives. We will miss you so much," she wrote.

In a tweet, Warner Bros. said we mourn the loss of a "beloved actor, an integral part of our

family 

. Our thoughts are with his family, colleagues, friends and fans."

Tyler had announced in June on an NBC show that he had suffered from an advanced form of prostate cancer since September 2018, which had spread to his bone system.
