[Explanation] Recently, the fast screening technology of "Blowing the New Crown" was unveiled at the National "Thirteenth Five-Year" Science and Technology Innovation Achievement Exhibition. The Boya Distinguished Professor of the School of Science and Engineering was developed by a team led by Maosheng.

Yao Maosheng told a reporter from China News Agency that the "blowing" test can produce test results in about 5-10 minutes as soon as possible.

  [Explanation] Let me introduce it. Experiments have shown that there are a variety of indicators in the exhaled breath of patients with new crowns and other respiratory diseases that increase or decrease significantly.

Through research, the Yaomaosheng team has identified 12 key endogenous VOC (volatile organic compounds) markers. These markers are the unique "fingerprints" for screening and identifying people infected with the new crown.

  However, in the past, we focused on one substance or two substances, but (only locked) this kind of two substances, basically you cannot be well associated with a disease. We found that there are about 12 related to the new crown. Critical (VOC).

  [Explanation] Through research on a large number of confirmed patients with new coronary disease, patients with non-new coronary respiratory system infections, medical workers and healthy subjects, the team found that based on the existing data model, the specificity and sensitivity of the detection reached more than 95%.

  According to the data of our model, the accuracy rate can basically reach 95%. I can help you distinguish effectively, that is, effectively separate the non-new crown, the new crown and the non-new crown healthy people, or other people.

  [Explanation] Yao Sheng said that the new crown nucleic acid test sometimes has risks such as "false negatives" and missed tests.

Some places and scenes require rapid screening, such as high-level meetings, customs immigration, special flights, isolated hotels, etc.

"Blowing the new crown" can make up for the lack of detection time and sensitivity of existing detection methods, and the cost is very low.

  If you really test it in the future, it will only cost you a few bucks, I think, a few bucks.

It's just a mouthpiece, you just need to blow some air in a few seconds.

  [Explanation] It is important to introduce that the method of analysis and detection of exhaled breath volatile organic compounds is a very mature technology. If it is to be used clinically, a large number of samples are needed for machine learning and the database is enriched to improve accuracy.

  What we need to do right away is to test this method with a large sample size and then optimize it.

Because its advantage is that every time you test one, you increase its reliability. If the amount of data is larger, the closer it is to accuracy.

  [Explanation] To Maosheng, this technology was already being developed at the beginning of the outbreak of the new crown epidemic. In June 2020, the research results were published in the form of a preprint, and related papers were recently published online in the international academic journal " The Journal of Respiratory Research is the first Chinese team to achieve results in the world.

  [Explanation] Mao Sheng said that this "blowing test" method can also be applied to other aspects of medicine.

For example, screening for some diseases such as cancer and diabetes.

If you change different markers, when the human body has symptoms but has not yet formed a physiological pathology, it can be detected in advance by "blowing", forming a human body "smoke alarm" and achieving the effect of "preventing disease".
