In the first year of the “ten-year ban on fishing” in the Yangtze River, it was completely open to the public. The first socialized release activity carried out in the national nature reserve of rare and endemic fish in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, promoted “national awareness” through “general participation”.

According to the person in charge of the Chinese Sturgeon Research Institute of Three Gorges Group, the concept of "Release +" was incorporated into this event for the first time.

"Combine the release with scientific research and technology experience, doctoral team outdoor teaching classrooms, on-site marking technology, etc., invite representatives of hydropower project immigrants, representatives of hydropower project builders, representatives of Yibin citizens, and representatives of college students to participate in the development of the Yangtze River University. A new situation of protection."

Since the first release of rare fishes in 1984, each release event organized by Three Gorges Group has been a single event. This release has chosen to carry out 3 consecutive events, aiming to widely and deeply promote the spread of the concept of protection of the Yangtze River to the grassroots people.

As a central enterprise born, grown, and rooted in the Yangtze River, the Three Gorges Group insists on playing a key role in the protection of the Yangtze River, fully implementing ecological and environmental protection measures, and continuing through the establishment of multiplication and release stations and broadening of scientific research cooperation channels. Carry out research and protection of the rare and endemic fish of the Yangtze River.

It is understood that in recent years, the Three Gorges Group has continuously improved the technological innovation system and mechanism, increased investment in science and technology, and tackled key problems in large-scale breeding technology of rare and endemic fish in the Yangtze River, intensive seed breeding technology, systematic construction of monitoring technology, and population echelon. Major breakthroughs have been made in the systematic construction of the fish, and the number of fish that can be successfully bred and released on a large scale is increasing. As of the end of September 2021, more than 10 species of Chinese sturgeon, Yangtze river sturgeon, and round mouth bronze fish have been mastered. The key technology for artificial breeding of rare and endemic Yangtze River fishes has released more than 10 million rare and endemic Yangtze River fishes in the entire Yangtze River basin. It is planned to release rare and endemic fish including Chinese sturgeon and Yangtze River sturgeon approximately every year during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period. 1 million tails.

During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the Three Gorges Group will also launch a "germplasm bank" for rare and unique fish, and establish a sperm bank, cell bank and gene bank for rare and unique fish.
