The Yangtze finless porpoise is the only known freshwater population of finless porpoise in the world. There are only about 1,000 finless porpoises in the world, 450 of which are distributed in the waters of Poyang Lake.

Recently, reporters accompanied by a joint patrol and law enforcement team composed of public security, fishery administration, and migratory bird protection departments in Duchang County, Jiangxi Province, when patrolling the waters of Zhouxi in Poyang Lake, and discovered that the lake is lively and finless porpoises in twos and threes are happily surfaced from time to time. , They sometimes chase fish and prey in the water together, sometimes chase and play in groups, splashing beautiful water splashes on the calm lake.

Poyang Lake is an important storage lake in the main stream of the Yangtze River. It is a typical seasonal freshwater lake with high water and low water.

The members of the patrol law enforcement team said that the current is the time when the water level of Poyang Lake is falling. To prevent the finless porpoise from entering the shallow water area by mistake, and to ensure the safe survival of the finless porpoise is one of the important contents of their patrol work.

Since the comprehensive ban on catching, Poyang Lake has reduced human activities, and the ecological environment where the finless porpoise inhabits and reproduces has been significantly improved. Nowadays, finless porpoise populations are often seen, and biodiversity has been effectively protected.
