After the tragic incident on the set of the Hollywood film "Rust", in which a camerawoman was killed by a shot from a blank gun fired by actor Alec Baldwin, Baldwin now speaks on social media.

On his foundation's Twitter profile, the actor wrote that he had no words to describe the "shock and sadness" he was feeling.

It was a "tragic accident" in which the "wife, mother and deeply admired colleague" Halyna Hutchins was killed.

He also assured that he would support the responsible authorities in investigating this incident.

In a second tweet, he offered his deepest condolences to Hutchins' husband and the couple's son.

“I am fully cooperating with the police investigation to find out how this tragedy came about.

And I'm in contact with her husband to offer my support to him and his family.

My heart breaks for her husband, her son and all those who knew and loved Halyna. "

According to police reports, the incident took place on Thursday during the filming of the western on the Bonanza Creek Ranch.

Baldwin is on board as the main actor and producer in the film "Rust".

Directed by Joel Souza, who was also injured by the shot, but has since been released from hospital.

The investigators also interviewed eyewitnesses, according to the sheriff's office.

In addition, the weapon will be examined and how the bullet was fired.

The Los Angeles Times reported that a prop master or a licensed gunsmith is usually responsible for the weapons used on the set.

Its job also includes loading them with blank cartridges and explaining how to use them to the actors and assistant directors.

Live ammunition is prohibited on the set.

Is there a rethink now following in Hollywood?

The German weapons expert Lars Winkelsdorf called for a rethink in Hollywood after the incident. "The handling of weapons, as shown in films, is not only unrealistic, it is actually dangerously negligent, and the risk of accidents in such filming is excessively high," said the journalist and lecturer in weapons expertise on Friday the German Press Agency. "I think it is irresponsible that the film productions did not establish safety measures here in the past, and Hollywood will have to rethink this."

Hutchins was reportedly flown to a hospital by helicopter and pronounced dead.

Souza was taken to a clinic in Santa Fe in an ambulance.

At first nothing was known about his condition.

Baldwin had posted a photo of himself in western clothing and with a gray beard on Instagram the day before the incident.

The newspaper "The Santa Fe New Mexican" reported that Baldwin was disturbed after the incident outside the sheriff's office and was seen in tears while talking on the phone.
