Nowadays Chinese people talk about culture in leisure

Today's Chinese people continue to value the quality of life, happy work, healthy leisure.

Watching movies, visiting bookstores, watching performances, visiting museums, listening to concerts, strolling through cultural districts... A variety of offline and online cultural and leisure activities have become necessities for many Chinese people.

Cultural and leisure growth has expanded

On weekends and holidays, the cultural life of urban and rural residents flourishes.

Attendance rates in the cinema continue to rise, and people are enthusiastic about watching movies; there are long lines in the museum, and the whole family is watching the exhibition; the theater is full of seats, and concerts are staged in turn; various cultural festivals are crowded with people, and there are various ways to visit and experience...

The "Annual Report on China's Leisure Development (2021)" recently released by the China Tourism Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as the "Report") pointed out that Chinese people continue to focus on improving the quality of life. An important choice, leisure time averages 3.8 to 4.4 hours per day.

The current leisure time has increased compared to before the epidemic. Compared with 2019, the leisure time of urban residents during working days, weekends, and holidays all increased by different degrees this year, with the largest increase in weekends, an increase of 0.91 hours.

"Every weekend, I have to spend a day to fill my spiritual life, go to bookstores and museums, watch movies and various exhibitions. This weekend, I plan to see two long-awaited exhibitions "Meet Dunhuang·Light and Shadow Art" "Exhibition of the world's first exhibition" and "Meeting Ancient Egypt·Golden Mummies"." "Post-90s" Beijing office worker Xiaohan likes this culturally infused life very much.

Cultural leisure has become an important daily life option for urban and rural residents.

The "Report" shows that from the perspective of the overall structure of leisure activities, in addition to consumer shopping, cultural leisure ranks second.

People's awareness of cultural leisure is increasing, the growth rate of consumption and shopping is narrowing, and the growth rate of cultural leisure is expanding.

About 65% of urban and rural residents like to watch movies, visit museums, exhibition halls and other cultural experiences, and choose to go to theaters, concert halls and other places to participate in leisure activities.

Rich and diverse culture and leisure

Recently, people's interest in museums has grown stronger, and precious cultural relics are active in the public eye.

This year, many amazing treasures were unearthed in Sanxingdui, Sichuan Province.

These magnificent and peculiar cultural relics with intricate craftsmanship are shocking and attract a lot of attention.

Sanxingdui Museum has also become one of the hottest cultural and leisure destinations this year.

During the National Day holiday, the Sanxingdui Museum received 12,400 visitors on the first day, and achieved ticket revenue of 695,400 yuan, an increase of 415% and 316% over the same period in 2019, and an increase of 588% and 378% over the same period in 2020.

Behind the high popularity is the attraction of culture and people's desire to explore ancient Shu culture.

In leisure time, people are more willing to achieve spiritual satisfaction.

Cultural venues, including museums, libraries, art galleries, cultural centers, exhibition halls, bookstores, theaters, concert halls, etc., are also aiming at this demand, constantly innovating, and providing a rich cultural experience with a new look.

"My girlfriend and I often choose fashion bookstores such as Zhongshuge and Yanjiyou. We read books, drink coffee, listen to lectures, and buy cultural and creative products together." Beijing girl Chen Fangfang likes to enjoy good time in bookstores.

Many bookstores in cities now not only sell books, but also integrate multiple functions such as coffee shops, tea houses, cultural and creative markets, exhibition halls, etc., and become people's cultural life rest areas.

Libraries in various places are also actively transforming themselves, integrating various activities such as book lending, lectures by famous experts, cultural salons, and art exhibitions, to provide readers with rich cultural nourishment.

Not only offline, people's online cultural leisure is also rich and colorful.

According to survey data from China Tourism Research Institute: 55.8% of respondents actively participate in online exhibitions, 57.7% are willing to participate in cultural venues cloud experience, 41.3% are willing to charge knowledge, and 40% like cultural activities such as online film and television and live video.

Sun Ling, an office worker who loves literature and art, told reporters: “Since the epidemic hit at the beginning of last year, I have been accustomed to visiting museums and viewing exhibitions online. Online cultural activities have allowed me to receive cultural influences without leaving my house. Last Saturday, I listened to the online concert of the "Party History in Singing" chorus of the National Centre for the Performing Arts, and I can watch it back for free."

Various cultural venues use modern information technology to continuously enhance the convenience and accessibility of public services, and improve the sense of acquisition and satisfaction of the people.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has implemented a digital library promotion project for the national public library system. As of the end of 2020, the digital resources shared across the country have exceeded 145 trillion bytes.

In addition, it has also promoted the construction of a public cultural cloud platform for the national public cultural center system, carried out pilot projects for the construction of digital cultural centers, and promoted the popularization and digitization of national art.

According to statistics, since the launch of the National Public Culture Cloud in 2017, the cumulative number of visits has reached 809 million.

  Prospects for cultural leisure

Leisure has become an important way for the people to realize themselves and pursue a better life.

The "Report" believes that there are still occasional epidemic rebounds across the country, which still has a certain impact on long-distance travel.

In this context, local leisure has become an important alternative after tourism is blocked in the short term, and it plays an indispensable role in daily life.

In order to better meet the diverse and individual needs, various localities have vigorously promoted the construction of cultural venues, realized the free opening of public cultural venues, and strived to allow people to enjoy a more substantial and rich spiritual and cultural life.

According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, as of the end of 2020, there were 3,212 public libraries, 618 art galleries, 5788 museums, 3327 cultural centers, more than 40,000 cultural stations, and 575,400 village-level comprehensive cultural service centers. .

All public libraries, cultural centers, cultural stations, art galleries and more than 90% of museums have been opened for free, achieving "barrier-free, zero barriers".

Culture and leisure stimulate consumption and boost the holiday economy.

As the capital, ancient capital and cultural center, Beijing has a wealth of diverse cultural products and great potential for cultural leisure consumption.

Since the 9th Beijing Huimin Cultural Consumption Season was held for a month, it has adopted six major sections: More than 300 activities have lightened the new picture of Beijing's cultural consumption, and a number of cultural consumption activities with new formats, new models and new carriers have successively met with citizens and tourists.

Recently, Beijing also released the first batch of 12 "Beijing-level tourism and leisure districts", including Qianmen Street, Sanlitun Taikoo Li leisure district, Badaling Great Wall tourism and leisure district, Nangong tourism and leisure district, etc., which have become good places for people to relax.
