The local investment is in line with SVT's main mission to be in and monitor the entire country.

- SVT is the whole of Swedish television and the new newsrooms will cover Swedish society from many different perspectives, says SVT's CEO Hanna Stjärne.

The journalists in Märsta, Västervik, Åmål and Dorotea are tasked with reviewing and capturing issues that are important to viewers and also highlighting local issues that may be of interest to everyone in Sweden, SVT writes in a press release.

With the four new newsrooms opening in 2022, SVT will have a total of 48 newsrooms around the country.

The goal is editorial offices in at least 50 locations by 2023.
