unveils the new Paris Workplace barometer on the working environment, the offices of tomorrow and employee behavior.

  • According to the 1,600 respondents, the ideal number of days of teleworking is 2.25.

But this number varies if one is over or under 35 years old.

  • The relationship with colleagues is different depending on the age of the employees.

Employees under 35 consider “their colleagues as friends” at 67%, a figure twice as high as among those over 50.

Democratization of teleworking, taking a step back on the meaning of one's job… The Covid-19 crisis has turned the business world upside down.

This is shown by the new Paris Workplace barometer on the work environment, the offices of tomorrow and the behavior of employees, published this Thursday.

For you,

20 Minutes

sums it up in 5 figures.

7.1 / 10 for well-being at work

This is the rating given by those under 35 when asked to assess their well-being at work.

A positive assessment, especially in view of the progress it represents since it has been 6.5 on average since 2014 and the first edition of this barometer.

Above all, looking in more detail, we can see that it can improve, employees who frequent green spaces every day at work give themselves a well-being score of 7.8 / 10, against 6, 7 for those who attend them less than once a month, for example.

2.25 days of telecommuting

This is the ideal number of

home office

days

per week according to the people questioned. The confinements that forced many employees to telecommute have changed their perception, the figure given in February 2020 was only 1.55 days per week. A difference appears between those under 35 who only ask for "only" 2.1 days against 2.3 for those over 35. This difference can be explained by the fact that young people often feel more alone or isolated (35%) in their company than older people (26%). A difference that has widened with the health crisis since, if the score of the over 35s is roughly the same, that of the youngest has increased by 8 points since the start of the crisis (26% in February 2020). The office remains the most efficient place to work according to young employees:62% of them consider that they perform better in the office compared to 29% who answer that they work better at home.

26 points more for the office, the place where we like to spend time

That's the increase, in points, of those under 35 who see the office as a place to spend time.

While they were only 38% to give this answer in September 2020, they are 64% in 2021. The presence of colleagues is surely for something since for 49% of young people, the social life of the company is the number one reason for coming to the office.

Moreover, 67% of young employees consider that “their colleagues are also friends”, against only 34% of over 50s.

66% of those under 35 believe that the well-being of employees is a priority for their employers

The health crisis has not affected only employees.

Employers also seem to have become aware of the importance of the well-being of their employees with regard to the 66% of respondents under 35 who believe that the well-being of employees is a priority for their employers.

This is 8 points more than in February 2020 (58%).

This translates, for example, into the provision of outdoor spaces (terraces, gardens, parks) for employees since 57% say they have them in 2021 at their workplace compared to 48% in February 2020.

68% of those under 35 give importance to the work environment

Furniture, exteriors, neighborhood ... The health crisis has enabled employees to take a step back from their work environment.

A fact that can be seen in the importance of the office since 68% of young people say that it is an element to take into account in their choice to join a company.

Frédéric Dabi, Director General of the FIFG, in charge of the barometer, points out the taste of young employees for the surroundings of their workplace with a strong tendency to go out during the day, to take advantage of catering, to play sports or daily shopping.
