The operation to secure and neutralize any explosive devices bore fruit in the bay of Manérick, in Batz-sur-mer, near Guérande (Loire-Atlantique).

For three days, the Nedex (neutralization and destruction of explosive devices) teams from the Atlantic Maritime Prefecture searched the sand in search of devices buried since the Second World War.

Result: no less than 800 small 20 mm anti-aircraft shells were processed (700 discovered Tuesday and 100 Wednesday), as well as a larger 105 mm shell, reports the maritime prefecture.

These bombs, found less than a meter deep, were neutralized on site and then brought to safety off the coast.

This is why several detonations were heard in the town on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The operation was decided upon following the discovery at the end of September of several magnetic anomalies revealing the probable presence of explosives under the beach.

A large security perimeter had been established since Monday.

About fifteen homes even had to be temporarily evacuated.
