16 books from 6 Arab countries are included in the "Etisalat Children's Book" short list

16 books by 14 writers from 6 Arab countries and 11 publishing houses are competing to win the Etisalat Prize for Children's Books, organized by the Emirates Council on Books for Young People and supported by Etisalat in its 13th session. The winners of its five categories will be crowned during the opening ceremony of the 2021 Sharjah International Book Fair.

The short list of nominees for the “Early Childhood” category includes the book “I wish for you” by Asmaa Emara and the painter Noha Mohamed (Nahya), issued by Dar Al-Shorouk in Egypt, and the book “Alf Ba… Ya” by writer Samar Mahfouz Baraj and painter Sinan Hallaq, issued by Dar Al-Saqi - Al-Saqi for children and young people in Lebanon, and the book “Simple” by Manar Hazaa and illustrator Basma Hosam, issued by Al-Alia Publishing and Distribution House in Egypt, in addition to the book “Three Smart Foxes” by writer Amal Nasser and illustrator Nadine Issa, issued by Hekaya Qamar House in Saudi Arabia. And the book “My Hands” by the writer Rahima Belfar and the painter Basant Daoud, issued by Dar Al-Alia for Publishing and Distribution in Egypt.

In the "Illustrated Book" category, the book "Super Hero" by writer Nusaiba Al-Uzaibi and photographer Hassan Manasra, which is issued by Ashgar Publishing and Distribution in the UAE, and the book "Akhkh Khkh Khkh" by Manar Hazaa and illustrator Suhaila Khaled, issued by Dar Al Aliyah for Publishing and Distribution, is competing. In Egypt, the book “My Short Ali Pants” by Maria Dadouch and Celeste Ayres, published by Dar Al Salwa Publishers in Jordan, in addition to the book “My Sister’s Brain is Pierced!” Written by Abeer Ali, illustrator Gulnar Hajo and issued by Hachet Antoine/Nofal House in Lebanon, and the book “What If You Find an Angry Dragon in Your Home” by Amal Nasser and Painter Reem Al-Askari, issued by Hekaya Qamar House in Saudi Arabia.

Competing in the “Book with Chapters” category is the book “I object to the dinosaurs, they did not become extinct” by Wiam Ahmed Mahmoud and illustrator Hiam Safwat, issued by Dar Al-Alia for Publishing and Distribution in Egypt, and the book “My New Nightmare” by the writer and illustrator Lubna Taha, issued by Dinason House in Palestine. “Orange Ball”, by Tamara Samir Kashha and illustrator Yekaneh Yaqoub, issued by Dar Al-Yasmeen for Publishing and Distribution in Jordan.

The short list of nominees for the “Book of Young People” category includes the book “Dates and Masala” by the writer Muhammad Zakaria Al-Nabulsi and the painter Yasser Juaisa, issued by “W” Publishing House in the UAE, and the book “As if you were planting a rose in my hair” by the writer Anas Abu Rahma and the painter Ibrahim Jawabra, issued by Dinason House in Palestine, and the book “A Small Escape” by Afaf Tabbala and illustrator Maryam Hani Abdel Salam, issued by Nahdet Misr House in Egypt, while there is no short list for the “Comics” category due to the lack of required criteria in the books submitted for the award, and the winning book will be announced During the official award ceremony.

The prize is allocated 1.2 million dirhams for the winners of this cycle, so that 180,000 dirhams are allocated for each category, to be shared equally by the author, painter and publisher, at a rate of 60,000 dirhams for each winner, with the exception of the category of young people whose financial prize is shared by the author and publisher only, at a rate of 90,000 dirhams for each. In addition, 300,000 dirhams were allocated to the "Workshop" program launched by the award in 2013, with the aim of discovering and nurturing the new generation of Arab talents in the field of children's and young people's books, and developing their creative abilities.
