Xinhua News Agency, Nanjing, October 20 (Reporters Qiu Bingqing and Zhu Xiao) At about 20 o'clock on October 21, the Orionids meteor shower brought to the earth by the famous Halley's Comet will usher in a huge amount of ZHR at about 20. That is, under ideal observation conditions, when the radiant point is directly above the head, about 20 meteors can be seen every hour, and the "rainfall" is small.

Wang Kechao, head of science popularization at the Purple Mountain Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that this year's observation conditions are poor, and the radiant point has not yet risen. At the same time, affected by the moonlight of the full moon, the actual number of meteors that can be observed per hour will be less than the predicted number.

"There will be several peak periods before and after the maximum period of the Orion meteor shower, during which the public can try to observe."

The Orionids meteor shower is a small and medium-sized meteor shower that occurs regularly every year. The event date is between October 2 and November 7 each year.

When the "rainfall" of a meteor shower is small and the observation conditions are poor, it is more important to choose the correct "observation posture".

Wang Kechao suggested that you should choose a safe observation site with clear weather, low light influence, and wide field of vision.

"It is a bit difficult to see meteors on the balcony of your home. City lights and high-rise buildings may block the meteors. Specifically, you can watch them in the suburbs away from bright lights."

Wang Kechao said that the meteor shower does not require professional equipment and can be viewed with the naked eye.

Meteor showers have "own thoughts", which may appear from anywhere in the sky, and require a wide field of view to capture meteors from different directions.

If you use equipment to watch, the field of view is small, and it is easier to miss them.

Therefore, it is recommended to prepare a cushion or recliner, and choose the most comfortable position to lie down, so that your eyes are full of stars and the sea, so that you have a wide view and you can comfortably watch the meteor shower.

In addition, meteors will appear randomly.

If you want to wait for a beautiful picture to surprise your circle of friends, remember to keep the camera always on for shooting, set the camera's exposure time to about 5 seconds, adjust the sensitivity, and focus on continuous shooting.
