In a context made uncertain by the Covid-19, the Minister of Health Olivier Véran announced the launch of the seasonal flu vaccination campaign.

A week in advance therefore, with the stated desire to kill two birds with one stone: vaccinate the elderly and frail as quickly as possible, and at the same time give them the booster dose for the anti-Covid vaccine.

Because the priority population targeted by these two campaigns is the same: those over 65 and pregnant women, but also people with certain pathologies: asthma, diabetes, heart failure, AIDS, etc. All caregivers are also concerned.

As for the non-priority French, they will a priori have to wait until November 22 to be vaccinated against the flu.

Rebound of bronchiolitis

The risk of an influenza epidemic is complicated to estimate, all the more so with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last year, with draconian health measures in place, viruses had circulated little.

On the flip side, the immunity of the population has probably decreased, which can already be seen with a rebound in bronchiolitis.

The flu usually peaks in December.

It is therefore difficult to say whether there will be a strong epidemic.

The government has predicted the worst by ordering more vaccines than last year, while Public Health France indicates that if we observe "a little bit of traffic", "there is no alert" for the moment .
