Russia registered 34,303 new cases of

covid-19

in the past day, the fourth consecutive daily maximum since the beginning of the pandemic, reports Efe of the country's health authorities.

In the same period, there were 997 deaths from coronavirus, five less than the previous day, which marked the record of deaths since the outbreak of the health crisis.

So far in the pandemic, the accumulated number of deaths from covid-19 in Russia stands at 223,312, although the official figures on excess deaths for this period triple this figure.

In terms of the number of cases, Russia is close to 8 million and is the fifth country in the world behind the US, India, Brazil and the United Kingdom
