The police in Bavaria, with a contingent of around 100 emergency services, searched for a missing girl near Dillingen an der Donau.

The eleven-year-old went jogging in Holzheim on Saturday afternoon and did not come back, the police said on Sunday.

The girl’s biological family is determined, but an accident or a criminal offense cannot be ruled out either.

"It doesn't look like an outlier story," said Police Chief Inspector Markus Trieb.

The girl is publicly wanted.

Because at first it could not be ruled out that the girl's birth parents were connected to the disappearance, the Dillingen criminal investigation department also started an initial investigation.

The police did not comment on a report by Bayerischer Rundfunk that the parents belonged to the "Twelve Tribes" sect.

According to BR, the girl has been with a foster family for eight years.

The search was over for Sunday, "unfortunately without success," said Trieb.

The police will decide on a new search if the investigation reveals new clues.
