An overweight man shoots a bow and arrow at a garage entrance.

His name is Rainer Winklarson.

The photo goes around the world on Wednesday evening, it is said to show the kongsberg assassin in Norway who killed five people on Wednesday evening.

The media spread the word.

But there is no such thing as Rainer Winklarson.

The man in the photo is called Rainer Winkler, is 32 years old and comes from Altschauerberg in Middle Franconia.

He is better known under his pseudonym as Youtuber: "Dragon Lord".

He has nothing to do with the assassin from Norway.

Winkler published his first video in 2012. Since then, you can watch him playing computer games on YouTube, headbanging to metal videos or commenting on his everyday life.

In some videos he is sitting topless in his room, talking about sexual practices, verbally abusing his viewers or expressing himself racist.

The videos spread rapidly.

He now has more than 150,000 followers.

Many of them make fun of him or use video sequences to insult him in parodies.

International media took over the hoax

It is actually very quiet in the 40-inhabitant part of the municipality of Altschauerberg in the Emskirchen market, where Winkler lives. But in August 2018 more than 800 people agreed to meet up with the "Dragon Lord". Due to the great rush, the event developed into a media event. The police had to intervene. Since then, people have repeatedly tried to be violent against Winkler. Online he got nicknames like "Lustlord", "Lügenlord" or "Ragelord".

The Youtuber reacted and insulted his viewers more and more violently. Exactly these videos then spread particularly strongly - and fueled the hatred of his opponents further. In 2019, Winkler himself became violent towards visitors in front of his house. In the coming week he will be on trial in Nuremberg on suspicion of insult and dangerous bodily harm. He is said to have hit a person with a flashlight and injured him as a result. There is also debate over whether his Youtube license should be revoked.

Some users refer to the conflict between Winkler and his enemies as a "dragon game". The accounts that have committed themselves to this “game” are now also responsible for spreading the image that showed him as an alleged killer in Norway. Winklarson had announced his deeds in advance and also demonstrated his shooting skills on his YouTube channel, it said in a tweet about the picture on Wednesday evening. The actually well-informed Twitter account "Terror_Alarm" spread the news. Numerous international media took over the hoax. The Italian news agency Ansa pointed out that the name of Rainer Winklarson had not been confirmed by the police. The actual suspect from Norway was arrested immediately after the crime. It is a 37 year old Dane.Winkler has not said anything about the false news.

"Unleashed hate culture on the Internet"

There are role models for the perfidious game of opponents of the "Dragon Lord": The American comedian Sam Hyde was repeatedly the victim of similar false reports, even CNN and BBC News distributed photos of him as the alleged perpetrator after a rampage. Christian Scherg, an expert on cyberbullying, calls the Winkler case an escalation that makes the "unleashed hate culture on the Internet" visible. The “troll armies” “stopped short of nothing”. But Winkler also contributes to the fact that red lines are exceeded. Because of his provocations, it would be too easy to call him a victim of cyberbullying. Lars Grässer and Aycha Riffi from the Grimme Institute dealt with the case in a study. You come to the conclusion that Winkler is an isolated case, which, however, makes the general brutality and hatred visible on social media.
