"Shigella" raises fear in Jordan?

The health authorities are on the move

 The news of the spread of a germ transmitted through water, food or touch in the Jordanian city of Jerash sparked a wave of fear that spread widely in the Kingdom, about the possibility of its transmission and the expansion of its infection.

The Jordanian Ministry of Health stated that the bacterium called "Shigella", which appeared in the city of Jerash, caused many cases of poisoning.

The ministry said in a statement carried by local media and websites, that this Shigella virus is "transmitted through water, food or touch," stressing that "the number of infections is under control."

She added, "There is a specialized team sent to the area of ​​the spread of germs, to withdraw samples from food centers."

 The Director of the Diseases Directorate at the Jordanian Ministry of Health, Ali Al-Zitawi, said that 10 infections were confirmed with the germ out of 57 suspected cases, noting that the remaining samples are still in the laboratory.

 Jerash Health Director Muhammad Al-Tahan confirmed that the cases that visited Jerash Hospital were simple, noting that the preliminary results of the tests showed that the cause of the poisoning was the "Shigella" germ.

Al-Tahhan announced the closure of a “popular restaurant” and a bakery in the village of Jubbah in Jerash Governorate, and about the existence of a relationship between the closure and suspected cases of poisoning, he stressed that “the closure was caused by a violation of public safety conditions and has nothing to do with suspected cases of poisoning, and the party that closed is the Jerash Health Directorate.”

Poisoning cases have been recorded in the governorate since last Monday.

The Ministry of Health ordered the closure of a water desalination plant in the governorate as a precaution.
